It seems to me that this might be the spot to discuss the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg. It is a major event in that it helped to move us out of the middle ages and facilitated literacy in the common man. His work on the Gutenberg Bible is fascinating too. Imagine, there are still 48 copies in existence today! It has been interpreted (at least in part) in over 1,808 languages! What a shame that he was such a poor business man though!
