France troops abuse and rape accusations.

[edit]

When looking at the "International involvement" section and the "France and operation Turquoise" subsection, there is no mention of the multiple accusations of abuse and rape perpetrated by the French troops against the Rwandan women who had sought refuge in their bases during the African country's 1994 genocide. very good article, well laid out

[edit]

wish, more articles took event chronology, and different factions, views etc, into account, and clearly titled, as this. 12.146.12.12 (talk) 04:15, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is population density responsible for the genocide ?

[edit]

"At 408 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,060/sq mi), Rwanda's population density is among the highest in Africa. Rwanda's population had increased from 1.6 million people in 1934 to 7.1 million in 1989, leading to competition for land. Historians such as Gérard Prunier believe that the 1994 genocide can be partly attributed to population density."

This entire paragraph should be struck in my opinion. It's very clear, that the cause of these events are the decades of ethnic tensions driven by colonial rule, as the article lays out before hand. This attribution of the genocide to population density -even if it hedges as partial- contains no evidence, or logic. People around the world live in higher and lower population density, with no correlation to how often they massacre each other. The conclusion the uncritical reader is pushed towards is quite sinister- "Africans can't live in close proximity without killing eachother" Gucci gucci01 (talk) 21:54, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Gucci gucci01 - I'll make a note to read The Rwanda Crisis: History of a Genocide.
But you're going to have to follow the instructions on WP:Edit requests (and preferably, if you haven't already, read the book to verify the source) before your edit request can go through.——Randomstapler's alt 22:36, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: See the above comment. You're going to have to be more specific for an edit request.——Randomstapler's alt 22:38, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

External videos

[edit]

I find the placement of the Coming To Terms With The Rwandan Genocide video (with a big YouTube logo) to be a little odd. Does anyone object to me moving the box to Media and popular culture? Bitspectator ⛩️ 17:58, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Moved it. Bitspectator ⛩️ 21:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bitspectator The placement of external videos are there because of the length of the article, and they come from primary sources, as well as snippets of audio from radio broadcasts. I don't think they should be moved. ——Randomstapler's alt 00:35, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's really the "via YouTube" which I find tonally jarring with the genocide infobox. I'll remove that while keeping the location the same. But if you revert again I won't object and will leave it as it. Bitspectator ⛩️ 01:04, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's fine.——Randomstapler's alt 01:05, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The image is kind of odd.... in the latest GA article I did it was recommended that a generic link would be more neutral see Canadian peacekeeping. Moxy🍁 01:20, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bold edits needed

These academic analyses on Rwanda and its history are dense. Any bold attempt to go through this linked FAQ, and read through these otherwise unseen references, with bold edits, to help ensure WP:NPOV would be appreciated.

This request is not limited to this protected article! If you are a new user, we'd appreciate you editing Rwandese National Union and Ruanda-Urundi, which new users can edit right now.
