HMS Conqueror
[edit]WP turns up an inconsistency - the HMS Conqueror of this period was a ship-of-the-line, not a frigate. Either the name is wrong or the ship type is wrong, need to investigate further. Stan 14:40, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Joshua Barney
[edit]- The following comment has been relocated from the article:
NOTE: This article refers to Lt. Joshua Barney as the Virginia's executive officer. This information was likely taken from his memoirs, published in the 1830s by his daughter-in-law, and from subsequent biographies which perpetuated this error. In fact, he was too junior to be the first lieutenant, and official sources I have come across indicate he was, in fact, the fifth lieutenant, making him the most junior lieutenant aboard. Unfortunately, I cannot find the specific reference at this time. Thus I am only making this note rather than an official change. However, as soon as I can find an official source like I did in my research a couple years ago, I will update this site. V/R LCDR T. D. Thygesen, USNR (Ret.)
