Atomic theory

[edit]

Thanks for your offer of help. I'm not having any problems right now with critics. My only concern is that there seems to be so little supportive feedback now that I've fixed the references. Is this article doomed to fail its nomination a second time? Kurzon 15:38, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Arithmetica Universalis

[edit]
Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Arithmetica Universalis, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Would you consider changing your vote to keep the information if it were merged with List of groups referred to as cults or expanded into a broader topic: "The Transition from Cult to Religion." That might make a very interesting wikipedia article. cairoi 15:30, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Policy disputed tag?

[edit]

I just reverted a "policy disputed" template on WP:FUC, that was placed there a second time after you reverted it. Does that template even exist? Seems like a strange template to have if you ask me. Borisblue 06:39, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's a generic "message" template that someone's using to "dispute" policy. --Carnildo 06:44, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder...

[edit]
When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Hey Boris. I would like to nominate you for adminship. Before the wheels can go into motion, you should activate your e-mail preference post-haste. Once you've taken care of that, send me a note and I'll get things started. If you're not ready for adminship just yet, I understand. However, by all means activate your e-mail. re: Davey O'Brien Award

[edit]

Although the official web site uses the long name, most of the media uses the short name, and therefore the shorter name is more common. Therefore, I think it should be move back as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions where the most common name is given more priority than the official name. Photogs Barnstar

[edit]

Thanks, Borisblue. At first I couldn't figure out what a Barnstar was. (I'm new to all this.) I will have to reflect upon what's expected of photographers around here before I submit any photos to the FP page again. I'm not soured on WIkipedia, but I don't suppose I'll be putting any FP nominations up for a while. =)

Thanks again!

What to do if you are nominated by someone else:

  1. Go to your RfA subpage, and either accept or decline your nomination. If you decline, be sure to inform your nominator.
  2. After you accept your nomination, make sure to answer the standard questions for all candidates.
  3. Change the time on your RfA page to indicate the current time.

Hi, I just wanted to say that if you think I was too harsh in removing any of 216.103.214.64's links, I would be OK with restoring some. My main concern was they appeared to be added by the owner of the site or someone trying to promote it. I wouldn't object if a neutral editor thinks any of the links are useful enough to make an exception to the rule about avoiding links to blogs. Wmahan. 07:10, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits on Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Wikipedia 1.0. Currently I seem to be the only person working on rating maths articles, and it would be great to get a bit of help. There is quite a lot to do, most of the mathematicians don't have corresponding Template:maths rating tags, and there are still a lot of articles we have not begun to look at. --Salix alba (talk) 16:11, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Helping out with the backlog

[edit]

Hi there and congratulations on your brand new sysop flag. Now that you are an admin, you might want to help the community in a way you weren't able to before. The obvious example is clearing out the Category:Administrative backlog :-) You might want to start with Wikipedia:Requested moves which I find the easiest to deal with. Adminship

[edit]

Thanks for the offer but I'm not interested, at least not now., maybe in a few months if I stick around as an editor. It's been great working on the Euler article with you. When I first read FA nominations pages I couldn't believe how picky people seemed to be but I realized that this was one of the only real occasions to make sure an article was (almost) as good as it could be. So now I try to do the same and make sure I don't give my okay unless I have really no idea on how to make an article better. I hope I never sounded overly critical, I really think you did a great job building it up and I also think we did a lot of good work since the FA nomination. Cheers. Pascal.Tesson 06:23, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With reference to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review#Nandini_Rajendran I gind that your ONLY contention seems to be verifiability. Since I have given citations from leading news papers, I expect you to revise the vote as the article is verifiable at present  Doctor Bruno Talk 02:47, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair trade criticism

LaRouche theories

[edit]

In some contexts, the LaRouche networks actually do intersect with current events, and the October Surprise conspiracy theories are a good example. There are several others. I do think it is appropriate to mention their claims when they have risen to a certain level of public awareness or outcome. The clainm that Dukakis was mentally ill is another example, because it created headlines until it was traced back to the LaRouchites. Same with parts oft he Iran/Contra story. Hope this helps.--Cberlet 12:55, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Euler refs

[edit]

meh... I'm tempted to disregard the comment since that system of referencing is pretty standard around here. For instance, I randomly picked FA bio articles Norman Borlaug, Mahatma Gandhi, Che Guevara. They all work like that. Now we can debate all we want about whether or not that system makes sense but I'd rather stick to an imperfect system in wide use than do something different based on one editor's reluctance. Maybe we can rename the second to last section as "Further reading and references" but to be honest I'm getting a bit annoyed that this FA process isn't over. I mean what else can we do? I suggest it might be good for you to either contact the current FA admin or at least say something on the debate page to re-explain how you have adressed every friggin little comment that everyone has made. I'm confident that the article's quality is above the current FA average, it's a core subject, you've gone and convinced Calinger to review the article. Gaaaah, can't we all move on?

...... and now I'll go and chill! Pascal.Tesson 21:49, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Semiprotection Mafia article

[edit]

Thanks for your mail. I understand your concerns, in particular the one to keep WP as open as possible. On the other hand I hope you understand my concern that it is difficult to see an article vandalised very often (at least in my opinion). It is very annoying to keep removing vandalism all the time in stead off spending my time on more useful contributions. Why should I bother if I don't have any support. See the latest one: [1]. Is that the kind of impression you want to make on people who want to get reliable information? The question is very simple: whose side are you one, the people who want to make serious contributions or the ones who are there to mess up? Mafia Expert 00:12, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I would like to thank you for two things; for reverting vandalism and for semi-protecting my page. The semi-protection worked, and I really appreciated your work to protect my page. Should I add the template {{usertalk-sprotect}} to my page? Acs4b 03:31, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

[edit]

Thanks for protecting Khwarizmi. Could you also protect Ahwaz and Arabs of Khuzestan? It looks like the last admin mistakenly semi-protected these pages. The problem is not vandalism. It's edit-warring. الأهواز | Hamid | Ahwaz 05:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boris,

I don't agree with protecting al-Khwarizmi. Every month someone (or a sockpuppet) comes along and starts disputing his etnicity, disregarding the three references to articles by respected historians of mathematics, based on pure speculation and not on reliable sources. Protection will not provide a longterm solution to this problem and is only very frustration for people who are interested in expanding the interesting and important aspects of this biography. Hey Boris, as Ruud pointed out, the dispute about al-Khwarizmi's ethnicity has been going on for quite awhile. The Ahvaz edit war is new however. I think it would be a good idea to contact all involved parties for the latter. I've also noticed some sockpuppetry lately, and will soon go to WP:RFCU. However, I guess I should assume good faith in the meantime so we can get this settled. Khoikhoi 21:35, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use discussion

[edit]

I have to say, I appreciate the level-headededness and maturity you have exhibited in the discourse on the fair use page. Discussion regarding fair use has been extremely heated in the past few days, and it is refreshing to have a conversation about this matter without the intense vitriol that has characterized past debates. And you came up with the goal that you sought- a workable(imho) compromise! I really don't know if the compromise we came up with will garner support, but it's worth a shot. Once again, thank you. Borisblue 10:25, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem, I'd like to say the same. I've hit brick walls in the last day or so making my arguments on both user talk pages and on fair use pages, and I can definitely see blood in the water regarding a policy that may perhaps be unpopular with groups of users. But I think working together is going to get the discussion a lot further than simply brute-enforcement. - Stick Fig 10:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello. I'd appreciate if you'd stop removing one of the pictures from Make Love, Not Warcraft. They certainly aren't the same pictures, nor are crops of each other. Moreover, each is being used for entirely different purpose; one is meant to illustrate an important point of the plot where the main characters of the series are shown in the form of machinima, while the second illustrates an element patently different from normal gameplay elements (e.g. dead character with missing head). Thanks. Michaelas10Respect my authoritah 16:31, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boris, you're really going to have to excuse my inability to write correctly here. I have only gotten an account to ask about a message I received recently. Without an account or ever having made any changes to Wikipedia pages I got a message telling me I've been blocked for vandalism. This is under the IP address 58.106.134.138 which isn't mine. Exactly why am I getting this message? Thanks Distro78 15:05, 2 July 2007 (UTC)distro78[reply]

Distro, this is a bit of a hard one. It appears that this IP is attached to you, otherwise you won't have received this message. Nevertheless, the block from 58.106.134.138 has expired, so you can edit from there normally. If the vandalism wasn't your doing, just ignore the messages. Alligator sounds

[edit]

Hi! Thanks so much for adding three sounds to Alligator. A friend of mine noted recently that alligators are the most vocal of crocodillians (I'll have to ask him where he read that before it makes it way into wikipedia), which makes having sounds of them very relevant. However, I can't seem to listen to the sounds. The problem is with the downloading; I try to download the file, and the time for dowload quickly goes up and starts reading in hours. Where did you obtain the image of Hurricane Felix? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dvferret (talkcontribs) 14:48, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Borisblue. As I can see you are the main author of the stub. By accident I've noticed there's another short article about him. When you put it in order leave me a message on my talk page, please. Thank you in advance Interpunk1 20:39, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ron Paul Image

[edit]

Interesting, well they actually added that little disclaimer after someone sent a request to their campaign to allow Wikipedia to use the image (as stated on the talk page.) What in particular should they add to the site, to make it sufficiently clear they are allowing it to be used? ~Rangeley (talk) 04:59, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I asked the official campaign and they are interested in getting the newer picture online as well. So I also want to know: What the [fill in the blank] should the disclaimer say? - Oliver (ronpaulforums.com)
English isn't my Mother tongue: What exactly SHOULD the disclaimer say to be legit for Wikipedia???
Can you please forward the email to permissions@wikimedia.org Geni 13:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was just about to ask the same thing as Geni. It is all well and good to claim that you have email permission, but be sure to forward your entire correspondence to the above email address, including all necessary contact information of the people you were in touch with. Thanks. --Tom (talk - email) 02:31, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Have you forwarded your email correspondence to OTRS yet? The usability of this image is still in question. Thanks. --Tom (talk - email) 21:07, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did you send it just now, or several days ago? Sometimes it takes a while for someone to process your request (you'll know it has been processed since someone with an OTRS account will add a template to the image page). Thanks for sending it, though. --Tom (talk - email) 21:14, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the ticket doesn't help since I don't have an OTRS account. :) It can take a few weeks. --Tom (talk - email) 21:26, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysian Universities Edit

[edit]

Are you some sort of Malaysian government stooge? I've added information that is basically common sense in Malaysia, including references. Why did you remove it? Are you trying to hide something, or are you being paid to crap on truth? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gangeticus (talkcontribs) 07:17, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you are the recipient of bumiputra privileges, you should recuse yourself from administrating Malaysian universities edits. You are endangering Wikipedia objectivity if you continue to do so.Gangeticus (talk) 08:18, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! The speed you reedit the articles is really something! I don't think any other article ever gets reedited at the speed you do it. Hmmm.... Another page from Goebbels, I suppose. If indeed the part that was introduced by me speaks of rumours, then why do you remove all the other parts? Even the parts with graphic references was removed! Are you really administrator material? Or are you just another stooge working full time to restore bullsh!t info? Gangeticus (talk) 14:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism accusation

[edit]

Borisblue,

I visited Wikipedia today to find a message accusing me of vandalism to an article on Gordon Brown.

However, I have never visited this article, let alone edited it.

Clarification and more details on the vandalism would be appreciated.

Your message was timestamped as: 17:06, 29 June 2007 (UTC).

I am not sure whether that timestamp indicates the time you sent the message or the time that the article was vandalised.

If it indicates the time you sent the message, I have only just recieved it (26/12/07).

Furthermore, your message was attached to my IP as I don't have a Wikipedia account.

I don't really know how IPs work, but mine changes whenever my router is reset (like most people I guess). Therefore, there's a high probability that I did not have this IP address 6 months ago.

I don't know how IP addresses are assigned, but perhaps there is a chance that I currently have the same IP as the vandal 6 months ago.

A response from you via this webpage would be appreciated.

Regards, T Rehman

Don't worry about it. Sometimes IP addresses are assigned to computers in a large area, rather than a single area, so you get a message intended for someone else. To avert this kind of problem, just register an account and login to wikipedia with that account. If you don't want to then just ignore the message. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Malaysiakini logo(old).gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Malaysiakini logo(old).gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Slovakization

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Slovakization. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Slovakization (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brother Andrew until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
