Big problems with this article

[edit]

Frankly, this article looks bad. I'd be willing to clean up huge chunks of it soon, but I was wondering if there was a place where this could be discussed with others in the WikiProject Children's literature group. Dilbertfan, 30th May 2013

Plot

[edit]

I notice this article lacks a plot summary. I actuadfdfdfdfdfdfdfdflly just read this book for a class on teaching Young Adult Lit, and I can write a ojects.--136.176.22.254 (talk) 06:24, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have to say that I strongly disagree with the hidden comment that appears on the edit screen on the article, for 2 reasons. 1) I don't agree that all of the information is really necessary for the average reader to understand the very long article: this isn't supposed to be a replacement for reading the book, and 2) I don't agree that anyone has the right to basically "lock down" a version of any Wikipedia article. Joyous | Talk 23:54, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The book has so many things that are unrelated that it's impossible to summarise shortly, however some things can be taken out and details removed. And no one has the right to "lock down" a wiki like that, I removed the comment. For those that weren't editing this article before, the comment was "WHEN EDITING THIS PAGE, ALL THE INFORMATION THAT IS ON THIS PAGE IS REQUIRED FOR THE USER TO UNDERSTAND IT. PLEASE AVOID REMOVING INFORMATION, UNLESS IT IS PATENT NONSENSE! THANKS, USER:KILO-LIMA"
Why not just take the plot summary from To Kill a Mockingbird and repost it here? Racial injustices in the 1930s Deep South through the eyes of a young girl based on the author and her family's experiences, featuring a heroic lawyer and a lynch mob - I can't believe Taylor wasn't sued.--MartinUK (talk) 23:19, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup Tag Proposal

[edit]

This article has come a long way, and even if it's not the best it could possibly be, I believe it meets Wikipedia's quality standards. I propose that the tag be removed, but wish to get consensus first. Please state your opinion below. Arknascar44 ¡Hablar Conmigo! 14:39, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very well, I will remove it and assume "Silence equals Consent". Arknascar44 ¡Hablar Conmigo! 19:00, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No Cassie?

[edit]

I noticed that Cassie wasn't listed as one of the main characters. Is that a mistake someone made? I can't fix it myself since I haven't read the book in awhile, but would someone else be able to? Dreamfar 15:27, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done (see here) Looks like it was just a messed up header. Cheers, Arky ¡Hablar! 17:44, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

This article needs some serious cleanup. For example, I noticed a paragraph in the plot summary that used two different names for the main character's father ("David Logan" and "Papa"). The character paragraphs could look considerably nicer and be more informative. Thesithwithashotgunshell (talk) 00:46, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dates?

[edit]

The first line is wrong...this novel is obviously not from 2008 if it won prizes in 1977...

--Heero Kirashami (talk) 17:13, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely horrendous.

[edit]

This article, in it's current state, is one of the worst I've ever read on Wikipedia. It sounds like a fifth grader's book report. If I have the time, I'll try to work on making it better, but meanwhile, may I ask someone else to try? Amazeedayzee (talk) 03:55, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely agree. I am still a novice with Wikipedia, but i will help when I can. Louanna007 (talk) 23:15, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

the charachters part is getting better but still needs work — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.200.167.43 (talk) 02:10, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

article was vandalised

[edit]

Profanity was added to this article, cleverly stuck in the middle, and I found it when working with my daughter. I would like that person tracked down if possible and blocked but needless to say the acts of one sick person require that this article be monitored. I do not know the plot of the book so all I could do was delete the two sentences I found. There could be more. Regardless, the article needs to be rewritten and I will try to come back when things slow down and see what is happening. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrperkins (talkcontribs) 03:10, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clean- up

[edit]

The page needs some clean up. The plot is much too long and needs to be trimmed, and with such a long plot section it might not even be necessary to list the characters separately. Better would be to integrate them in the plot. Then, see if any reliable sources can be found that discusses the book: what are the themes? what's the genre? Things like that are useful. I've watched the page and am available to give guidance. I'll see if I find any comparable novel articles and link to here. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 14:31, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the language used is inaccurate. The summary says the Logans are "the richest black family around" and though that is true for the novel's setting, they are by no means what most people think of as 'rich'. They have what I consider the minimal level needed to be comfortable in 1930s Mississippi. They're roof's tin. I'm going to trim the article for accuracy. 74.69.121.166 (talk) 19:16, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

what happened????

[edit]

Thi does not have a lot of details of the story. Ireaad the book more than once and please someone fix it.♥ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.230.129.19 (talk) 04:05, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Needs serious work

[edit]

Through all the Wikipedia pages I have read this one always shines through as one of the worst - I believe that it requires significant work on rewriting almost every part of it. Although the plot of the book is long, the current page is written like the writer took the book and turned each page into a sentence. Serious work should be done on this page, as in its current state it is frankly pathetic. TheMcWriter, 30th December 2020

Firstly, please note that new Talk page threads should generally be placed at the bottom of the appropriate page. Secondly, I see you complaining about the page, but I don't see you offering clear suggestions for improvement. As the page isn't protected, if you feel there are improvements to be made, why not be WP:BOLD and make improvements? DonIago (talk) 03:08, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I Hope This Resolves the Ongoing Issues

[edit]

The problem here is that this book does not have an ongoing plot as such. It is mostly character driven and features several interlocking storylines like many modern TV shows (Game of Thrones, Westworld, Mad Men, etc.). I've separated out each plot line into its own bullet point, which will hopefully make them easier to follow. Just Another Cringy Username (talk) 22:36, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Morrison

[edit]

The character Mr Morrison is not gigantic because of random genetics, as is implied by linking his name to an article on gigantism. He is the result of forced breeding between enslaved people. This link suits him better: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slave_breeding_in_the_United_States?wprov=sfti1 Ljhliesl (talk) 02:23, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh i didnt know, while reading the article I dint expect anything to be random in these types of books, it was a surprise, although it was a 50/50 whether Mr. Morrison had such a background or just a plot convenient character, so this is much appreciated. Adding Themes Section

[edit]

In the lead section of this article, themes are mentioned found within the book, such as Jim Crow segregation, Black landownership, and the Great Depression. However, I think it would be important if someone could look more into these themes and write on it within the article. Adding these themes could make the article more comprehensive and better for anyone that were to explore the article and use its information. Here are some articles to check out that might be good sources to look through for this section: https://www.ijells.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/July-2018.pdf#page=50, https://elibrary.tucl.edu.np/handle/123456789/11508, https://elibrary.tucl.edu.np/handle/123456789/12822 AIG3624 (talk) 17:41, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Section - Logan family series

[edit]

Isn't Roll of Thunder the fourth installation in the Logan series, not the "first book in the Logan family saga?" Song of the Trees (1975) was the only one published before Roll of Thunder and Let the Circle be Unbroken (1989) was published after. But chronologically, Roll of Thunder comes fourth after The Land (2001), The Well: David's Story (1995), and Song of the Trees (1975).

So the lead should disclaim this as right now it improperly says it is the "first" book? It even says it is preceded by Song of the Trees in the first edition caption. Dd0227 (talk) 16:19, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Censorship and banning incidents section

[edit]

This section is labeled "banning incidents" but only mentions one incident and then goes on to discuss why scholars disagree with the banning. I think it might be useful to add more banning incidents and create a separate section with scholar evaluations. Smm456 (talk) 20:06, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
