Tesco PLC
[edit]Why redirect it to Tesco? Surely the redirect should go in the other direction, from the colloquial name to the legal name. --Tagishsimon
- That does not amount to a convention. The second link is a discussion which does not seem to have reached consensus, and which has been running for about 24 hours. For the record, I strongly disagree with the use of the colloquial name. Rather I would opine that tesco should redirect to tesco plc. I;d be obliged if we could have more debate before arbitrarily making moves such as this. --Tagishsimon
- That is your opinion. I have asked for, and I think the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions#Public limited companies calls for, more discussion. So I would ask you again not to move any more PLC pages until we have had that discussion. --Tagishsimon
- Check out Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions#Choking the process. -- Mic 20:41, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Blue Star of David
[edit]I don't know if you ever caught it, but a while back I posted a comment at Image talk:Wikipedia blue star of david.png. As I constructed the first image and released it into the GNU FDL, I thought you may want to read it. I don't mind shrinking the image or rerendering it into something more mathematical, but your rerendering skewed the original dimensions I worked to achieve. Specifically, that the blue bars and their gaps have the same thickness, so as to match that of the Flag of Israel. In your edit, the gaps are disproportionately wider and the bars are thinner. (I originally made the image by pasting together giant triangles to precise mutual distance and filling in any remaining 1x1 pixel gaps.) Is it possible that we could work an arrangement so that you get your way, but the proportion between the thickness of the bars and the thickness of the gaps are equal? - Gilgamesh 11:37, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Sure, do whatever you like. Your version was too large and 2-bit colour so I rendered my version from a SVG flag of Israel from the Sodipodi collection I think. ed g2s • talk 12:11, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- What's too large about it? The bigger a public domain image is, the better. :) The image can always be shrunk to any arbitrary size in Wikipedia articles, and is shrunk on the server side if download size is an issue. - Gilgamesh 03:59, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Re: Plymouth Argyle squad image
[edit]To tell the truth, I am no longer sure that it is public domain. I asked a "friend" to get me an image. I don't know any way of verifying it anymore though, so if in doubt, I recommend it is deleted.

Metric football pitch
[edit]Hi. It's been pointed out recently that your metric version of the image of the dimensions of a football pitch contains a number of errors. Perhaps you would like to look at talk:Football (soccer) and Image talk:Football pitch metric.png. Mintguy (T) 22:34, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Hi Ed,
If it isn't too much trouble, could you update your Image:Tallest buildings.png in London to include 30 St Mary Axe at the number 6 spot. -- Solipsist 22:14, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Football pitch
[edit]Hi. I'm afriad there's still some errors on the metric pitch. The dimensions of the goal should be be 7.32 x 2.44 metres. Cheers Mintguy (T) (15:59, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC))

Your Formula One team template
[edit]Nifty! I'd tried out a custom-style template (see User:Rdsmith4/Experiments) but yours is a lot better looking than mine would have been. Thanks a bunch. Incidentally, I've added instructions for using your template to Wikipedia:WikiProject Formula One, with which you might be interested if you're an F1 fan. Rdsmith4 22:24, 30 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I was wondering - why do you prefer the title of the race or team above the actual table? I rather liked the races template the other way, with the large flag. Rdsmith4 01:53, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- I think it's quite clear that the table is simply all the important facts about the race, collected in one place, and the caption isn't terribly necessary. Also, it's more pleasing to the eye to have it on the inside. Rdsmith4 02:02, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Moon navigator
[edit]Hi, if you want to remove the moon navigator on Neptune (planet) etc., please discuss it on the talk page and give a reason why you think it should go. Thanks. ^_~ -- Schnee 20:47, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I just figured out why you removed the Neptune moon navigator - because of the Neptune template at the bottom, which I hadn't noticed. Doh. Just wanted to apologise for rudely reverting. The Singing Badger 13:37, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Take a look at the integrated navigator/palette for Uranus (planet) (Template:Uranus); if you think that's the way to go, won't you help me to convert the other planets to that style? Starting with Neptune (planet), of course...

Keeping "In the news" NPOV and credible
[edit]Following various attempts to add partisan and fringe stories to Template:In the news, I've proposed a new criterion to keep such stuff out. Could you please take a look at Wikipedia talk:In the news section on the Main Page and let me know what you think? -- ChrisO 17:16, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
FeaturedPic tools
[edit]Hey Ed, good work on the new template, I saw you also created Wikipedia:Featured pictures thumbs. Did you know we already had Template:Pic of the day/Image archive? I think the new name makes more sense, but you might want to check now if the new article has all the thumbs from the old archive, if so, the old archive can be turned into a redirect. Ed, I'm not sure why you didn't cut back that Metropolitan police car pic down before uploading it. It's 2444 pixels wide and 548K large! It might be OK if the pic was in focus but it's very blurred so looks really bad when the thumbnail is clicked on. Click on my Devon and Cornwall police car pic to see how it might have looked - Adrian Pingstone 16:44, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I have protected Template:In the news due to the revert war in which you participated. I will unprotect it soon, but I ask you to please not revert war on a main page element again in future. - Mark 03:54, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Ed, I find your repeated removals of valid information from Template:In the news to be tantamount to vandalism, and I am going to ask you to please cease before more serious steps in the dispute resolution process become necessary. BLANKFAZE | (что??) 12:09, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Fair use
[edit]Hey Ed, could you please tell me how this image constitutes as fair use? As far as I know it does not fall under U.S. copyright, so it can not be qualified as U.S. Fair use either. If you have other information on it, please enlighten me (it would have been easier if you had mentioned your reasoning in the edit summary). Nice images
[edit]Hi Ed. Very nice images you've uploaded. I added a comment to the talk page of one of them, but I don't know if it's something you'll find easily. I also noticed that the London Underground Zone 1 pic claims not to be used anywhere. Is this right? If so, it seems a shame. --Rebroad 10:31, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
My talk page
[edit]WHOA, sir. Do not (I mean DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT) alter or remove comments from my talk page. EVER. First of all, the only person that does that on MY talk page is ME. Bottom line. Secondly, it's sort of pointless, because you'll be immediately reverted, either by me or someone else with an ounce of sense. So don't. Ever! Grazie. BLANKFAZE | (что??) 07:25, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Calendar templates
[edit]This uses it:

As well as this:
MaySelAnniv
If you want to refer to the current year, all you ever have to do is add JuneCalendar to get:
JuneCalendar
If you want to show a particular year and no other, then you will have to pass all the variables:
to get

Somebody could create template:AprilCalendar2004Source and move the ugly stuff there (making sure any dependent templates don't break). Then template:AprilCalendar2004 could be called upon directly and present a nice table. --mav 17:19, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. – Ram-Man (comment) (talk)[[]] 13:54, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
RFC pages on VfD
[edit]Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. taxobox templates
[edit]Sorry for stomping on ya. There's reason and history for the taxobox format, right dow to what is bolded and what is linked, etc. And ok, so I lied when I said if ya changed it to wikitax I wouldn't edit them. *winks* - UtherSRG 03:20, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Ah... It goes away when you move to its own line. See Indri now. - UtherSRG 04:34, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hi Ed - hope you won't mind, I've reverted Template:Taxobox image as the new format you'd incorporated with the wiki markup looked ugly (frame in a frame) - by all means please convert from html to wiki markup, but can you do it so the image fits snugly against the taxobox frame top & sides with no additional frame or white surround (I don't know how to do this!!) - thanks, MPF 13:44, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Hi Ed - thanks; not sure I understand entirely - are you saying that if you get rid of the white fringe at the sides and top of the image, the caption space cannot exist either? - MPF 15:29, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Hi Ed - to clarify; at the moment with your edits, the taxobox is the left-hand form, with a double frame. Could you change it to be like the right hand style, please - thanks, MPF 15:49, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- MPF - I've gotten it closer to what we want. No more border around the image, and the gap is much smaller. Ed - If you can improve upon this, please do so, but please don't revert it to a style that is not agreed upon by TOL. - UtherSRG 16:16, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)

Also, although of somewhat lesser importance than MPF's request, is to revert the taxobox frame back to black. I like the 3% gray that the bow now uses (although you should have run this past the ToL folks, or was this par tof toccolors?). - UtherSRG 14:13, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Ok, how does one view all of the available classes, and how does one modify them? toccolours should have a black border. - UtherSRG 15:26, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)
- Then perhaps Taxoboxes (which aren't TOCs anyway) shouldn't use toccolours. - UtherSRG 15:41, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)
- Then we need to come up with a "taxocolours" class to deal with it. But currently, taxoboxes should have
a blackthe default table border. You're jumping into a completed work and redesigning it by yourself, and that is not justified by anything. - UtherSRG 16:00, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)

fair use on the front page is a Bad Example
[edit]Why is that? What does an image being fair use have to do with an encyclopedia? - Lifefeed 13:51, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)
Wikipedia isn't free either, it's all licensed under GFDL that has it's own set of rules and regulations. GFDL and Creative Commons doesn't mean free. But anyways, in terms of accuracy, I threw this together for you: Improved Wikipedia Logo. - Lifefeed 15:55, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)
