On the disputed merge proposal
[edit]Please see Wikipedia:Merging#B. -- Antaeus Feldspar 23:10, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
I've done a bit of a rewrite here to focus the article a bit more on the 5-person Gatchaman team than on the original 1972 series itself. There have been a lot of different series and adaptations, but the basic 5-member team remains the defining characteristic. Also, since this is an English-language article, I added a couple of helpful references to help the uninitiated fans of English adaptations know that they've arrived at a relevant article even if some of the unfamiliar names confuse them. Title
[edit]Whatever you decide, the title is wrong. It is an English language wikipedia, so the title shouild be in English. We translate the names of organizations, political parties, etc. Ninja no better. mikka (t) 00:28, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Heights
[edit]Oh man, am I just too picky to note that Ken and Joe aren't the same height, as someone wrote in the trivia? I was thinking that Wendy Dinsmore was the one who did the original translation of heights from a book, but it's not on her site (that I found). Miyae has some things on her site about that kind of thing, but so much of the Miyae mythology has crept into her Gatch stuff that I'm a little wary about citing from there. Anybody know where that info might be? Katsesama 03:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
7 Zark 7 omission
[edit]I realise that this article is essentially about Gatchaman but it does mention the differences between the original series are it's derivatives. Despite this there is no mention of the Robot 7 Zark 7, I think that something about him needs to be added in, by someone with a bit more knowledge than me ;)
(hope this works ok as this is my first outside the sandbox) - Ensign R 11:12, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
- There is a free-standing article about Battle of the Planets which is wiki-linked in the article. It describes 7-Zark-7 quite adequately. This article is about Gatchaman which did not have 7Z7 in it, because he was used to fill in the space left by the heavy-handed editing for the North American market. I believe that trying to cover all the differences between the different permutations would render this article unreadable. The beauty of wikipedia is that if someone wants to know more, it is but a click away. --CokeBear 07:59, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Tables in Adaptations section
[edit]I have fixed the tables in the adaptation section as best as I can make out they were supposed to be. There were markup errors in the tables causing them to render incorrectly (in fx anyway).
The first table in section is rather large. I believe that some of the data could be taken out and moved to their own section describing the vehicles, possibly poaching some of the text from other sections (ie the bit about the Pheonix)
IMHO these columns should be moved.
- Rank
- Bird Uniform
- Weapon
- Mecha
This change would have been a major one so I didn't want to do it without discussion first. After all I do still have my L plates on.. --Ensign R 13:11, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Then again I was thinking maybe the tables could look like this? (maybe with some colour???) : --Ensign R 15:05, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Request for a "Episode title" variations table
[edit]Hello there, I just finished completely overhauling what previously was a stub of a page for G-Force: Guardians of Space and (if you guys didn't mind) utilized your variation tables on my article. Considering I'm still a wiki noob, would anyone be willing or help me whip up a table for Episode List comparisons between Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets/G-Force??? The list is already available: [1]. This would make it much easier for people who are looking to pinpoint a specific episode or would like to see the differences in naming inbetween the three. The table can be utilized on all 3 Gatchaman/BotP/G-Force articles. How about it???
Also, might I add a suggestion to expand the "Other notable changes" table to include variations of all the attack names (i.e Tornado Fighter/Whirlwind Pyramid, Firebird mode/Firey Pheonix) between the various versions??? I'll search for a list of all of those. Thanks!!! Die 7-Zark-7 Die!!! 12:45, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Kage-Maru87

"Literal" translation
[edit]The "literal" translation is exactly the same as the article title in meaning, so there is no reason to provide a "literal" translation. That is why I removed it. Unless you can provide a compelling reason to have a "literal" translation which is the same as the article title, I will remove it again. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Additions
[edit]I have made some addition Gatchaman pages to distinguish them from one one another I feel a template needs to be made also. Dwanyewest (talk) 01:39, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Plus I feel Eagle Riders and Gatchaman II should be redirected to their respective pages rather than Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.
- Again, no. Your enthusiasm is great, however all of these inappropriate splits you are doing are only causing more work for everyone else who has to undo it all. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 14:13, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
They are clearly 3 separate shows in of themselves I don't see why they should treated as one subject. Dwanyewest (talk) 16:15, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Plus I have supplied credible third person information on each of the three shows I just need some time to fill in the information to help distinguish them from the other TV shows main Gatchaman show. Dwanyewest (talk) 16:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- How are they separate? Same characters, right? Same continuation of the story, right? (at least from what their pages say)? Where is the significant difference? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:23, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F have some new characthers in the subsequent sequels [3][4]
Dwanyewest (talk) 16:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- But does it also retain the originals? Introducing a few new while still having the same core characters is not a significant difference. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:43, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I have the official G force book and it even states in the book its a separate show as it was only intended for one season but was expanded due to demand and states that they are that Gatchaman F and Gatchaman II are sequels you can hardly argue with an official book on the subject. [5] [6] Dwanyewest (talk) 16:57, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, yes we can as that is not the criteria we use in determining if something has a separate article. Yuu have yet to answer my question. Are they significantly different. If not, they are all part of the same series (which is what we look at, not individual shows) and do not need articles of their own. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 17:16, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hoping I'm doing this right, and my apologies if not... Gatchaman II and F are not part of the same series as the original Gatchaman; they have different series names, were made several years later, and have a different creator (the original creator being dead). However, they are sequels to the original and use many of the same main characters. I'm not expressing an opinion either way on whether that means they should have their own Wiki pages, I'll leave that to the more experienced Wiki folks. It's kind of a Stargate / Stargate Atlantis situation - new bad guys, new technology, same good guys. Cathrl69 (talk) 10:07, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks :) Sounds like they should still be in the same article then. Having different creators is no different from Trinity Blood, whose creator died mid series. Being sequels with the same mains and different bad guys is the same as many series, like Sailor Moon, etc. So they should be in the same article for now. If at some time this article actually becomes long enough that a split out is needed, then (and only then), should splitting be discussed. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Gatchaman history is long and messy: too many series, too many characters, too many English language "adaptations". You'd need a Gatchaman "expert" to make sense of it in one, single article. I'd suggest letting Dwanyewest work at his own pace, since he's the only one (right now) working on the Gatchaman-related articles. And, Dwanyewest, you should take a look at the WP:ANIME#Recognized articles so you'll have an idea of what we (the members of WP:ANIME) expect from articles within our scope. I specially like the articles on The Big O, Giant Robo (OVA) and X (manga).--Nohansen (talk) 15:31, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
I added some references for Gatchaman F and Gatchaman II from the original studio that did the toon. Dwanyewest (talk) 23:13, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I added a template I hope there are no objections I felt that this subject needed easier navigation I hope its satisfactory. Dwanyewest (talk) 22:25, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Additional resources
[edit]Hello - just dropping in to mention the ADV Films release of Gatchaman in North America came optionally as a series of two-volume (gorgeous) boxsets, each with a special disc of bonuses. These bonus volumes contain an incredible wealth of information on the release of Gatchaman in various countries, merchandise, comic books, music, and all kinds of stuff. If anyone has these DVDs, I highly recommend watching them as a source of info for the Gatchaman article. My plate is pretty full right now, but I'd love to revisit this article down the line and help work in it, too. I personally feel that given the breadth of info available and the impact of the subject matter, this article has extremely high potential to reach FA status. :) --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 04:19, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
do not merge
[edit]Let the two articles stay separate. They're different parts of the sagas. You wouldn't merge Empire Strike Back with Return of the Jedi. Please do not merge it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Monkeyjb1988 (talk • contribs) 20:17, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
I think I have provided some CREDIBLE information from the official Tatsunoko Pro website which provides basic plot lines for Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F and air dates from the official website and cited the official Gatchaman book and provided an ISBN number as to where I got my info. I am going to cite page numbers as well if this is not going to be even considered good enough as start for why they should separate articles from the main Gatchaman articles I really give up.

Gatchaman categories
[edit]Why has this article been placed under Anime OVA category when there is a Gatchaman OVA related article. See Gatchaman (OVA).--Dwanyewest (talk) 21:01, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- The OVA infobox places articles in Category:Anime OVAs. It is customary to remove these infoboxes when there are separate articles for individual releases (as is the case with the Gatchaman (OVA)) to avoid cluttering the animanga categories.--Nohansen (talk) 14:23, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Other Productions Of Gatchaman
[edit]I have read about other productions of Gatchaman, several that did not get produced at all while others have significantly changed from its initial design. They are only screen shots in blog posts in other languages such as Korean, so I doubt they will get their own article on Wikipedia. I don't think they will even be able to be mentioned in this article either. But so far all I typed was that there are many other productions that exist. In Correct (talk) 22:17, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
