Unreferenced list of Exhibitions

[edit]

The list of Solo Exhibitions is currently more or less useless (and possibly WP:OR) as there are no references - the nice-looking bluelinks just take you to articles about the places concerned, with no information about the exhibitions at all. We could either delete the list, or gather references for the major exhibitions (and probably delete the minor ones). Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:00, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, Chiswick Chap! I've removed the lists of both solo and group exhibitions. They added little or nothing to our understanding of Long and his work, though of course they provided plenty of publicity for the commercial art galleries in the lists. I note that these lists were added, along with most of the rest of the current content, by Jcohensh, whose only edits have been to this article; I also note that the James Cohan Gallery (which has a branch in Shanghai) claims to represent Long. I've tagged this page accordingly.
On the other hand, I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be, as you rightly suggest, referenced discussion here of significant exhibitions of the artist's work, if any non-connected editor feels inclined to add some. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:48, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There should be some (and even a cited list); Long is a major artist and reliable sources must exist. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:43, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

More COI?

[edit]

Further to the above, I also note that IP address 98.113.154.250, which recently edited the page and left an edit summary starting "we …", is associated with the host gateway.speronewestwater.com. Sperone Westwater is an art gallery that sells or has sold works by Long. I've tagged this page accordingly. Conflict-of-interest editing

[edit]

Some editors of this article have a clear personal or professional connection to the subject of the page, and thus have a conflict of interest. Conflict-of-interest editors are strongly discouraged from editing the article directly, but are always welcome to propose changes on the talk page (i.e., here). You can attract the attention of other editors by putting {{request edit}} (exactly so, with the curly parentheses) at the beginning of your request, or by clicking where it says "click here" on the lowest yellow notice above. Requests that are not supported by independent reliable sources are unlikely to be accepted.

Please also note that our Terms of Use state that "you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." An editor who contributes as part of his or her paid employment is required to disclose that fact. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:02, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The material may also be rewritten, providing it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Therefore, such paraphrased portions must provide their source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:32, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I've done my best to limit the damage here by restoring most of the previous text that Jcohensh over-wrote with his/her copyvio screed. Nevertheless, I've swept away a mass of good-faith work by bona-fide editors, and the whole page needs to be rewritten. It is very possible that I've inadvertently removed some good text subsequently added by other people; please feel free to restore if you see that I have done so. My apologies to those whose time and efforts have gone to waste here. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:32, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Richard's efforts 'inspired by Houghton Hall'

[edit]

Here they are: http://www.edp24.co.uk/going-out/new-exhibition-by-turner-prize-winning-artist-richard-long-features-seven-works-inspired-by-houghton-hall-1-4994291

The story of the Emperor's New Clothes seems relevant.

Perhaps this article needs 'Criticism' section. Here's an example of a critic who was underwhelmed: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2009/jun/07/richard-long-heaven-and-earth-tate-britainVarnebank (talk) 22:59, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
