Patrick Grandaw was born and raised in northern Wisconsin village of Crivitz. Attended Crivitz Elementary and High School.
As an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Patrick double-majored in Film Production and Cinema Studies, receiving the Princess Grace of Monaco Award for a film he co-wrote and directed called, Trois Heures Dix, a short made in the true spirit of independent filmmaking.
He received an MFA from the University of Southern California's Graduate Cinema Program with his thesis film, Melting Glass [1] a co-production shot in Prague, Czech Republic. The Shy and the Naked, a film he produced while at USC, won the CINE Golden Eagle Award. Several of his films made while attending USC received acclaim in the festival circuit. As well, he was awarded the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Scholarship, the Harold Lloyd Scholarship, and was a Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship nominee. His last film, Melting Glass topped off an impressive 34-festival run with winning top honors of Grand Jury Prize Best of Festival at the Vancouver Island Int’l Film Festival, Best Dramatic Short at Fargo Int’l Film Festival, Gold Prize for Best Dramatic Short at Crested Butte Film Festival, Best Cinematagraphy at Back East Picture Show, nominations for Best Short and Flash Forward Award at Portland Festival of World Cinema, was a semi-finalist in both the Angeles Awards and the Student Academy Awards, and went on to world-wide distribution. Filmography includes over 30 short films.
Hand-in-hand with his own films, Patrick has been both cinematographer and editor on both features and dozens of independent short films. One live action-animation film he shot, Plug [2] directed by Meher Gourjian, was the poster film for Atom Films for two straight years after sweeping the festival circuit. Another recent project includes cinematography on A Host of Daffodils, directed by Jane Clark.
Currently residing in Los Angeles, writing the script for a feature he will direct called, The Blue Eyes of Autumn to be shot in both the US and France.
